Gran Canaria is the holiday destination of choice for thousands of visitors each year. It is renowned for its excellent climate and proximity to practically any place in Europe. A flight lasting not much longer than two hours takes you directly to the island’s fabulous sun and beaches and the natural beauty of its inland villages.
The diverse landscape is bound to surprise you. In just a few miles you can pass from impressive mountaintops to rocky ravines home to huge palm forests. You will feel the temperature rise from 8 ºC on the mountain peaks to 24 ºC in the valleys below, all in just half an hour’s time!
The rich natural heritage on Gran Canaria, its unique ecosystems, geology and indigenous flora and fauna have led to the creation of 33 protected areas and various Nature Parks.
In the heart of Gran Canaria Island is the Parque Rural del Nublo, which encompasses the municipalities of Artenara, Mogán, San Bartolome de Tirajana, Aldea de San Nicolás, Tejeda, Valleseco and Vega de San Mateo. This Rural Park is home to Pico de las Nieves, which at 1,949 metres above sea level is the highest peak on the island and has spectacular panoramic views. The Park is also home to the natural monument Roque Nublo, an emblematic basaltic rock that is the symbol of the island.
There is a network of footpaths covering the entire island from the mountainous regions to the coastal areas – over 300 kilometres of rights of way following the traditional Caminos Reales (“royal rights of way”) that were created for communication and transport between villages. Perfect for walkers, horse lovers and cycling enthusiasts alike. Mountaineers will also delight in the spectacular ravines and volcanic landscape that distinguish Gran Canaria. You will find all this and more in our “continent in miniature”, Gran Canaria. And don’t forget we also offer a wide range of wellbeing experiences to pamper your body and soul.
