La Almazara – La Casona del Alicia is one of a group of buildings that were a former 16th Century “casona” (manor house).
It is in the historic centre of Santa Lucía, at the top of the village.
The house lies in an outstandingly beautiful region. The volcanic scenery is home to exuberant indigenous flora, tropical fruit, palm and olive trees. It is definitely one of the most stunning areas in Gran Canaria.
Strong traditional building materials -such as pinewood, palm leaf roofing and stone flooring- have ensured the conservation of the house over the centuries. The thick stone and clay walls keep the buildings fresh in the summer and warm in the winter.
The renovation of the residential complex was completed in 2001. The restoration work has preserved the traditional architecture and furniture, whilst at the same time furnishing the property with all the modern comforts and amenities.
The Casona patio, approximately 100m2, leads in to the different spaces of the property, such as:
- The former stables, now a living area for reading, TV, music and games.
- The former kitchen, now a laundry and cleaning room.
- The former bread oven and blacksmith’s workshop.
- The former vegetable plot (300 m2), today a garden with cactus and succulent plants, a swimming pool, sun terrace and barbecue.
